I'm not crazy, am I? This is the worst show in recent history.

Pride and Joey are definatly better than this show. I have to say this show is not the worst though. That goes to My Wife and Kids and According to Jim

Oh boy,"Listen Up" makes "Father of the Pride" and "Joey" look like some of the all time best comedies ever - even if they're not.

But I will also agree that "According to Jim" might be some serious competition for "Listen Up" in the Worst Show On TV award.

I'd rather watch Listen Up than Joey. And I'd happily watch either before I'd sit down to watch According to Jim -- my vote for worst show on TV. .

Listen Up is a good, funny show!... I think it definitely beats out Father of the Pride, According to Jim and My Wife and Kids. Heck, I even watch this show over Everybody Loves Raymond... so although it might get old fast, at this very moment it is a truly new comedy with something to offer.

This board either consists of short attention spans or serious ratings whores, as in "if it's not in the Top 3 it's a bomb". If other shows, like CSI or Lost, do well in the ratings, it's because they are innovative and brilliant shows. TV Guy likes "Lost", "not because the critics tell you to", which pretty much means that is exactly why. "It's a top show so it must be good". But "Listen Up" does well in the ratings and it's because of "viewer laziness". You are BEYOND crazy if you think "Listen Up" is the "worst show in recent memory". It's not brilliant, it's not a blockbuster, it won't win an Emmy, but it's an entertaining show. "Predictable story lines" says "TV Advice Guy" about "Listen Up". So I guess entertainment, mindless or otherwise, isn't what I should watch TV for? I should only watch shows that you need a PhD to understand? I should just jump on some bandwagon and only watch shows because OTHER people like them, as opposed to the fact that I like them myself? This "TV Advice Guy" is pretentious and can take his "advice" and shove it.

I am flattered that you checked out TVadviceguy at http://tvadviceguy.100free.com However, your assault on my opinions are flawed. You know in your heart of hearts that “Listen Up” is not good. You said so yourself, “It's not brilliant, it's not a blockbuster, it won't win an Emmy.” And yes, I think the ratings are decent (although dwindling) because of laziness. As for its predictable story lines, if you enjoy by-the-numbers sitcoms, that’s your prerogative. In fact, I am not turned off by formulaic sitcoms all the time either. It’s when they’re not funny that it sticks in my craw. But I love mindless entertainment as much as the next guy, I just have certain expectations; Like cracking a smile.

As for my opinion of “Lost,” you suspect I am riding the nuts of the critics & am blindly following the new critical darling. Nope. I mean, you just have to take my word for it I suppose, but it’s the show’s originality, suspense, and solid story telling that has kept me tuned in. When that’s gone, I’ll leave too. Now, if I cheered about every show the critics tell me to, I’d be all over “Kevin Hill,” “Desperate Housewives,” and “Jack & Bobby.”

Oh wait, I do like “Jack & Bobby.” Which is an “innovative and brilliant show” that sits at the very bottom of the ratings. Dead last. So there goes your theory that some of us only like the shows that do well in the ratings. In fact, many of my favorite shows over the years have been complete failures. Either because they were, in all honesty, too smart for most viewers (“Sports Night,” “Action,” “Arrested Development”), or they were too stupid (“Get a Life,” “The Mullets.”)

Finally, I am a bit offended that you took my opinions as “pretentious.” My opinions are as valid as yours. Oh, and no, I don’t think you should have to be a member of Mensa to enjoy television. But it’s refreshing to see a smart comedy (“Arrested Development”) or drama (“The Swan” – just making sure you’re still reading) from time to time. Is that a crime?

Oh, and thanks again for checking out TVadviceguy.

Well first let me say you can't say "TV Advice Guy" is wrong. This is his opinion and and no one's opinion is better or righter than anothers. You can say that you like the show he can say that he doesn't. We can't tell you your wrong or vice versa to us for not liking it. You don't have to get so angry. This is a board where you express different views.

For the comment that says we follow the top rated shows on this board. Look at my sig. Two pictures of one of the lowest rated shows of the season if not the lowest. Also I dislike CSI a critical fave and the number one show on TV. And to silence everyone I liked Tru Calling(A LOT!) critics where indifferent to hated it and the ratings sucked. I really liked the show though.

I taped and watched the first 2 episodes of Listen Up! I loved Jason Alexander in Seinfeld and Malcolm Jamal Warner on Cosby so I wanted to check it out! I didn't make it to the end of the 2nd episode. The character of the daughter (and friends) are stereotypical...another rude sit-com teenager. Jason's character (Tony) is an annoying whiner and not in the funny George Costanza way. Malcolm's character is better, but not enough to carry the show.

I think Still Standing (which is not a critical or ratings success) is a much better written and funnier show...All of the characters make me laugh!

JMHO!
