ETA: I apologize in advance for how long this is. Didn't realize how winded I got! To me, Mya is really, really good. But, BORING. I agree that I don't know what it is, but to guess, she just comes off as a very good technical dancer without much else. No real emotion. While I'm all for putting your own twist to the dances (you have to), you can't go overboard with it until the dance isn't even recognizable as to what it was originally supposed to be. She, and Mark at times, are especially guilty of this. They are both fantastic dancers, but they put SO much added stuff in there that it almost seems like a lack of appreciation, even respect, of the dance itself. This is supposed to be "ballroom". Put a twist in there, personalize it, but don't change it so much that it looks like nothing more than any other modern dance out there. Joanna is really good. But I can't remember any really fast dances she has done. I know she has to have, but I can't remember them. I only remember the slow ones. She has elegance that is perfect for that type of dance. Can someone remind me of the more fast dances she has done? Michael puts his whole heart into every dance. He may not always do well, but he throws himself completely into it. I can't help but respect that. Kelly, God bless her, is fighting her own personal demons through this process. I see her being weak at times and having triumphs at times. She isn't the best there, don't think she should win, but I can't help but to root for her on a personal level. Whatever the outcome of this show for her, I hope it raises her confidence in herself. She has proven she is capable of SO much. I want her to take it to heart and use it to strive in her life for whatever it is she wants to do. Aaron is cool, a bit cocky, but cool. A bit on the fence with this guy. He's kind of just, well, heck, I can't decide! LOL. Not someone I root for or against. Just.... eh. Then there's Donny. He's good more often than not and he brings such a work ethic to it. He gets dramatic at times and sometimes I kind of cringe, LOL, but yet, I adore him for it. I have noticed that after all the hoopla he can do, he slows down and really "listens" to the judges. He takes their comments and uses them in the following week. He struggles harder than some, then finds it easier than others. He probably is, truly (on a technical front) middle of the pack. But to me, he knows when to have fun and then when to take it very seriously. He has the correct balance and puts technical moves and passion into every dance he does. He may or may not win, but he is my choice completely.

Michael & Anna - this was Michael's best dance ever. He had so much emotion and his moves were really great. His scores were right on (except for Bruno - it should have been all 8's). Mark & Anna - it's awful that Lacey wasn't there. The judges were so harsh on him. I thought his dance was a lot of fun. I thought that was what the dance was all about. Donny & Kym - I just love Donny . He looks amazing. And he shines in every dance!! Aaron & Karina - he has really impressed me lately. He has taken the criticism and ran with it. He's cocky, but it works for him. Mya & Dimitri - she is always good, but always boring. Stop the stuff that Len hates. Just dance!!! Kelly & Louis - nice pants Louis. And as Frannie said - it was a mess. How did she get higher than Mark and Michael?? Sympathy votes I think. Joanna & Derek - Derek gets some of the best dancers. Joanna is amazing. She was so elegant and that dance was very sexy. Team Tango was so much more in synch than Team Paso. Both dances were great, though. I really wish Natalie was still there. She didn't deserve to go as soon as she did.

Monkster, think about it this way:
You've got three judges to please. You have no problem pleasing two of them. The third tells you EXACTLY what to do to get a better score...and you don't do it.
Now, if you were the judge saying exactly what needed to be done to get a top score and that person ignored you, would you feel inclined to give a good score when the dancer once again ignores your instruction? I wouldn't.
The first week, yeah, Len had a bug up his butt. Mya's dance was exceptional for week 1. But since then, I've noticed the more specific the feedback, the more she ignores it and does whatever he said he wasn't looking for. I don't even understand WHY someone in that kind of competition would ignore a judges comments. But she does. And then she complains when Len scores her lower.
Len has never criticized her technique as being wrong. A little off here or there, as with everyone else. Clearly she's technically stronger than most of the competition. But That alone doesn't cut it. The judges want to see growth and progress. They want to know that the dancers have taken their instruction and applied it.
Look at what Len said to Michael last night: the first few weeks Len couldn't wait for Michael to go...but now he's glad he's stayed, because the past few weeks he's shown progress. Technically, Michael's probably the worst dancer left. But he takes the judges critiques and applies them to the best of his ability.
I don't dislike Mya. I haven't seen her have a bad dance. But her dances don't inspire me either. There's something missing...whether it's the lack of connection to her partner or to the dance itself, I don't know. But after I see her dance I think "oh, that was nice." After I see Donny dance I think "damn, I want to do that!"

Here is what Mya said and it goes along with what I said: Facing Tough Critics: She’s one of the season’s most consistent and best performers. So why is it every week judge Len Goodman gives Mya and Chaplin their lowest score? “I don’t think he has anything against us,” Mya says. “He wants us to keep pushing to the next level so that we can reach three tens. We’re not achieving some factor in our dance. Either it’s too technical and Bruno [Tonioli] and Carrie Ann [Inaba] won’t like it, or it’s too performance-based or gimmicky. So we have to find a happy Medium to please the audience, the three judges and ourselves and be true to the dance.” http://tvwatch.people.com/2009/11/03/mondays-dancing-what-you-didnt-see-33/
