TV Best Bets for Thursday, June 02 *All Times Eastern By Courtney Potter Hit Me Baby One More Time 9:00 PM - NBC Another reality show to get us through summer, "Hit Me Baby One More Time" is a tasty combo of VH1's "Bands Reunited" and FOX's " American Idol," and is based on a popular British show by the same name. "HMBOMT," hosted by original U.K. presenter Vernon Kay, finds a bevy of "veteran" performers (in our case, folks like Flock of Seagulls, Arrested Development, Loverboy and Tiffany) competing for audience votes. The artists will perform one of their own hits as well as a cover of a popular contemporary song, with the winner to be determined by an audience vote. No word on what the winner receives -- but the nationwide exposure on NBC can't hurt their careers.

I didn't realize that only the studio audience could vote. That took away what little fun there was.
Oh well. 
I wasn't too hurt since all they won was a donation to their fave charity. I could make a small donation myself if that's the case.

I'm glad that I taped it...that way, I got a taste of each band and could ff through most of the songs. I did like that they were all really singing (would have been a bummer if they had been lip synching!) I was surprised at how awful Flock of Seagulls sounded. Tiffany sounded OK doing her song, but couldn't compare to Kelly Clarkson singing Breakaway. I also agree that the audience picked the right winner.
Which show is the one that is looking for a new singer for INXS...I originally had thought this show was that one.
I'll definitly tape it again next week...gotta see the Knack, Tommy Tutone, and the Motels...Vanilla Ice - not so much!
The INXS lead singer search is called "Rock Star" and debuts in July on CBS, which, if Sinclair Broadcasting (owner of my CBS affiliate) doesn't get with the program and renew a deal with Dish Network, I won't get to see it because the station is being dropped from DN!
Last night, A Flock of Seagulls had none of their original members except lead singer Mike Score, I'm reading a lot of internet editorials and reviews where people don't seem to be getting this. It's kind of disappointing because they were the ones I most looked forward to and based on the VH1 show "Bands Reunited" a year or two ago, I thought they had reunited. They also performed together on that show and Mike Score did sound pretty bad then as well. Obviously, their sound in the 80s was "synthesized" to a point. I didn't finish the show last night to see next week's lineup but it looks a lot better. Course, I thought THIS week's would be kick butt. Not so much. I'll watch next week and hope for the best.
Vanilla Ice has been on several reality shows and seems like a really angry, bitter guy, unless it's an all just an act to distance himself from his "rap" image".
