Have all the Fox cancellations effected your viewing habits? Are you less likely to view new Fox shows?


After all the cancellations with Fox I have decided to refrain from watching any new Fox shows. I got upset with the canceling of John Doe, Tru Calling, and Killer instinct was starting to grow on me when it got canceled. I have no idea what Fox plans to do with Bones, but it is also starting to grow on me. There are so many canceled shows I can’t name them all I am sure you can add to the list of canceled shows that you loved. Reunion really has me angry because Fox offered to give me a 20 year mystery and didn’t keep their promise. I gave up on Reunion because of the long baseball break but I had hoped to buy the DVD and view the entire season uninterrupted but it looks like that won’t happen because Fox is not going to film the entire 20 years
I have a few shows such as House, Prison Break, Bones etc I will watch, but I won’t watch any more new offerings from Fox until they clean up their act. My time is too valuable to be wasted watching a mystery that doesn’t have and ending. I Lost 3 or 4 hours from my life watching a mystery without a conclusion and from what I have read here others have wasted even more of their time. I have also read from those that hung in and watched it that it was a great show. That makes me even more angry and upset. I refuse to give Fox another chance to suck me into watching a new show only to see it canceled.

PS Seinfeld had terrible ratings in its first season and was in danger of being canceled but someone in programming gave the show a chance to grow.

Let me begin by saying that I don't mean to dismiss or denigrate your passions about TV. Everyone is entitled to what they think or feel.

However, I'm a bit weary of viewers who believe that a network or cable outlet "owes" them something specific. In the case of "Reunion," Fox never bought a twenty episode order. They contracted for thirteen episodes, which they will probably air, and ordered an additional four scripts as a show of faith in "Reunion's" prospects. ("Killer Instinct" and "Kitchen Confidential" were each asked for three more scripts, and their seasons were cut even shorter.) The viewership for the show, and its retention of "The O.C.'s" audience, was consistently less than Fox had hoped for. Cancellation usually results from that circumstance. Keep watching the shows that you enjoy, but don't kid yourself that they are guaranteed to continue as long as you want them to.

During the summer, didn't we all agree that there was too much clamoring for our attention on Thursdays in the fall schedule? The results are in; CBS and NBC held their own, UPN and the WB grew a bit, and ABC and Fox got ground up in the middle. That shouldn't have been a huge surprise.

If you need a list of Fox cancellations, both deserved and tragic ("Wonderfalls!"), watch the first few minutes of the first episode of "Family Guy's" second coming. Even if, like me, you have no use for the series, the long litany of Fox roadkill that Seth McFarlane reads off is worth a couple of minutes of your time.

Well, since "Reunion" is garbage, I would have to go with D) Cancelling it made me appreciate FOX more.

FOX cancels alot of shows, however many of the shows that FOX cancels I don't like.

Shows like Tru Calling,North Shore,Point Pleasant,Quintuplets,The Next Great Champ,Wonderfalls,The Inside,ect.. all sucked and were cancelled because the ratings sucked.

If ratings are low a show get's cancelled. that's that.

Well, they tried promoting the show so more people would watch, but it didn't work... Why would they keep the show going if barely anyone else is watching.

I'm sorry that you don't get a conclusion, but I think its a decision that FOX needed to make.

I gave up watching it after the long baseball break so I only had about 2 or 3 hours of my time invested, but I imagine that others that stuck with it after baseball are more upset than I am. I think the show would have faired better if they had waited to begin the show after the baseball season was over. If they did a full season I would have bought the DVD set. Maybe the problem is that Fox needs to be more selective as far as what shows they allow to air. The focus seems to be on quantity rather than quality. Maybe a better selection process that includes test screening a show before they give it the OK would yield better results. To me it seems as if they just throw a big bunch of Poo Poo on the air in hopes that a few will find an audience. Maybe if they cut it down to shows they really believe in and are willing to commit to they might have a higher success ratio. How can the viewer have enough faith that is new favorite show won’t be cancelled before he begins viewing a show if the network hasn’t displayed that they believe in their shows?

I agree, the baseball thing was a huge disadvantage to FOX and its new shows, most of which are getting cancelled(besides Prison Break, Bones and War at Home). I hope FOX will remmeber for next year to not do the baseball thing, although it did help them ALOT with ratings.

I've seen every episode of REUNION and am sorry to see it go but it hasn't soured me on FOX. I don't watch most of their programming, but when I see promos for a show I think I'll like, I watch it. I currently watch The O.C. (which sucked me in by its promos). I watch each season of American Idol. I watched POINT PLEASANT and NORTH SHORE until they were cancelled. Would I be happier to see shows I invest in continued? Sure. But I am also relieved some times to see a show cancelled because it makes the choice of dropping it FOR me. I probably should drop OC since it hasn't lived up to its first season but I continue with it out of habit. I wouldn't be too crushed if it left the schedule.

I think part of the reason for the success of reality shows and cable series is the shorter seasons and limited runs. It requires less committment of the viewer.

In regards to being disappointed in never knowing how REUNION would have resolved its mystery...frankly I'm not that engrossed by the mystery. I appreciate the show as it stands as the chronicle of a group of friends who experienced growing up, growing together and growing apart through almost the same timeline I did (being a 1989 graduate) so I can relate to their struggles. The mystery's a gimmick and a clever one, but I'm not DYING to know whodunnit. I've been more intrigued by the twists/shockers the episodes have brought - Will's status as a priest, Craig being able to walk, the one by one reveal of who survived... more so than the actual mystery. I think I can go on not knowing who killed Sam and why. But I'm sure the answer will be told in some way, shape or form (as DVD commentary, press release or whatever), so those who really do need to know will be satisfied.
