No. You can also have a faux hawk. Either is acceptable.

First time Top Chef-er. So far I like it...pretty fast paced and the foods they make are interesting. I don't like the female host...she bugs me and makes weird mouth faces when she talks. Richard and Jennifer - can't tell the 2 apart. They have the same 'do'. I like the Aussie muffin, too. I thought the guest judge was funny with the comment about the sideburns. The mushrooms Nikki made looked horrid.

I rather enjoy her also. I think one of the things I like is she never tried to hide her scar. She wears it and is still a beautiful woman. Plus she does add a little something to the show because I really can't see any of the other judges interacting with the contestants as much as she does.
I think Padma works well on the show. She can be critical without being bitchy (a skill Gail hasn't quite mastered as well). She also has a funny side...I loved last season's breakfast challenge when the final 6 (?) had to make her a breakfast. Hung made a smoothie and added Grand Marnier because "Padma likes to drink" and another contestant said when considering their dish, "I know Padma likes marscapone (sp) cheese and liquor". That just cracked me up. She seems to be able to laugh at herself.

Comments on last night's show? Andrew's a spaz...but I like him. I wonder if when his time comes they WILL need to get security to drag him out. I can't tell most of the girls apart yet. I would rather have eaten the Red Team's food (sliders, corn dogs) but I get that they Lost because their food didn't hold up from kitchen to catering table. I wonder why they couldn't get that... I think Nikki is not long for this game after two miserable showings in a row (the turd mushrooms and the brick mac n cheese). I think Ted Allen's great and enjoy when he's on the panel. I hope he got reimbursed for Padma's marshmallow drop on his shoe. Those s'mores looked really good. So did the cinammon won ton chips. So did the (soggy) corn dogs. I like corn dogs. I think they should be more readily available in our society. Why can't I go to McDonalds and get one? It's not like they're hard to make. Making them go door-to-door for ingredients was at the same time inspired and sort of lame. Could either Spike or Andrew shave so I can tell them apart easier? Or can Spike continue to wear stupid hats if he's unwilling to shave? I think that's all I got this week.

You're right, one of the other girls should have went. They kept talking about "improvising", but changing what you were given to cook with isn't improvising. The actors at Second City take what the audience yells to them & uses it....they don't say, "well, I don't like that they yelled 'pickle', so I am improvising by changing it to "spam". I'm just glad that Stephanie didn't go home, she is the only girl I like. Bye Jen, join your gf Zoe, so I don't have to hear you say over & over, "I'm doing this for Zoe".

I really was glad to see Jen go. I too, was getting tired of hearing how it was all for Zoe. Its a cooking show, woman! Zoe did not die, she just got booted off. She's at home waiting for you!!!! Sheesh. What ever happened to wanting the designation of Top Chef for your own satisfaction and advancing your career? Now it was nice to see the soup get praised for its flavor. His instincts were good and that soup should have been cooked in the previously challenge. I agree that not using polish sausage was a dumb idea. That was the ingrediant, you use the ingrediant you are given. I think it would have been a great test and a great showcase for them if they had taken what they considered unacceptable-to-be-served food and made it into something very upscale and well flavored. A chef that can do that would truely be a fantastic chef.

With people starting to cut back I am wondering if Whole Foods can survive. I have gone there but not for routine shopping. They have some protein bars I like and AMAZINGLY they are/were still the cheapest of any of the grocery stores I frequent. Also as I mentioned the fish. It's so expensive but this stuff must get flown in because there is absolutely no fish smell and it is fresh, fresh, fresh! Plus they have some of the less common fish. I can get cod, catfish, etc at the other stores but they come in with black cod(the only one I can remember) and other types that I cannot get anywhere else. I just buy less and make darn sure I use it that night and not wait a few days to cook it. Their target is the upscale crowd so manybe they will survive. They have a really nice deli with prepared meals--real meals-- and always a salad bar/hot foods line. you can buy your dinner right there and take it home like at a deli counter. They make really good soups and some fascinating salads and its all made in the store using the ingrediants there. Also some really fine, fine cheeses. I've got a Dublin cheese that is so mellow and a particular favorite is the garlic white cheese. Same with chocolate, they sell a lot of imported chocolate, milk and dark in varying percents of cocoa. A vast array of granolas that are put together in House not boxed, lots of organic frozen foods and lots and lots of organic vegetables from the state and imported. You know what is organic/pesticide free and you know what is not organic as it is clearly marked. I'm not a purist on the organic but some things I do like to go for the upper range. I long ago cut back on going there because I could drop $80-$100 too easily. I still make an occassional stop for the fish, the bars and the cheese. oh yeah...did I mention the in House bakery and all the exotic breads from little bakeries in the city? They have a flat cheese bread that is so fantastic.....and raspberry challah bread. OK, I feel the urge to go to Whole Foods. sigh...not this week, paid all the household and standing long term bills, fed the savings and am living on my strict budget. Maybe next payday.

The wedding cake was gorgeous! Now this week's show,I was sad to see Andrew go. I liked that fiesty personality of his; always in your face and just not willing to shut up--even when it would have been better to keep the mouth from moving! Now I am favoring Andrew's friend-the one who said he was alone in the House and the guy (I'm terrible with names) who likes to wear his hair in a midline spike but does some very, very upscale food-he always looks British to me. I used to think Louross was good but the comment about his just cooking asian food does seem to be true. Plus he is just too emotional. Do you think someone really turned up the brown rice pot on purpose or was there an accident or it didn't happen at all? I loved the salads they did in the quickfire challenge. I really want to try and make some of those! Do you notice how when the lowest ranking chefs are brought out, how aggressive some of them look? Andrew always looked like he was daring anyone to criticize his food and the woman in the bottom also looked very defensive in her stance. I've noticed that about her before.

Agreeance!
I can't wait to see Lisa go home. She deserved to go home over Dale, imo. She b!tched about everything he did. Dale would say something in a normal voice, and she would tell him to "calm down".
And could she please wash her hair?
OK...that's gross.....chefs should not have greasy or unkept hair.....

Lisa actually could win potentially IF her service is better that Stephs or Richards...that would suck. I am hoping Stephanie gets it because they have always had men and I think it would be nice to have a woman win once...plus she is really talented but so is Richard...I hope Lisa isn't the first female Top Chef though...what a pain in the ass... The judges don't go on personality though so......

I finally get to watch this starting June 23/08...
Do you hate knowing already who won?...or does it really matter because it is fun to watch anyway? I always rewatch the past seasons when they are on and I like it just as much even though I already know who wins...sometimes I even forget I know and I am genuinely surprised when _____ goes home
I saw the reunion show...I picked Stephanie as the winner of fan favorite...first time I ever got it right.
I don't mind.....I actually pay attention to these things when they happen.....knowing when they happen...and besides....I already forgot a lot of things discussed here......
