after 2 *1/2 viewings* (had to zap 'cause i was suffering from mild nausea around mid-show) i have the creepy feeling that dierdre hall and wilford brimley are about to show up on the doorstep, and that we're going to be treated to an oatmeal party! though shawn christopher is easy on the eyes, that's just not enuff to keep me interested in this show. so, that's it for summerland for me!

i heard this show was just another O.C. knock-off ("Faux-C"). Is that true? i haven't watched summerland.

you may be thinking of fox's north shore, with brooke burns. summerland has annoying children! don't watch the oc, but i think it has annoying young adults.

Why not watch 'The O.C.'? I thought this topic was for 'Summerland'...

Anyway, 'Summerland' is sort of an 'O.C.' knock-off. It completely different in characters (three of them younger than 17, the other four main characters are adults) and location (instead of being rich, they're more middle-class [and annoying]).

As for similarities, both 'Summerland' and 'The O.C.' follow around the adults and the younger kids separately most of the time. They both involve relationships and have similar storylines (drugs, alcohol, relationship problems, etc.).

Overall, 'The O.C.' is a much better show than 'Summerland'. 'The O.C.' has excellent and consistent writing, completely outrageous plots (that actually make you want to keep watching), and Seth. 'Summerland' has two extremely whiny kids, four completely clueless adults, little drama (though it did just start), and cliché and overdone plots.

THAT was pretty much what I heard, that it follows the same formulas as The O.C. Probably to try to take advantage of the OC's success by creating a show that would in theory appeal to the same audience.

though i doubt that's how it'll turn out.

I suppose you could say that "Summerland" borrows some elements from "The O.C." You could also say that those elements - teenagers, handsome young adults, beachfronts, and teen angst - were cornerstones of the WB, well before we learned how it was done in "The O.C." You could even be cheeky enough to say that "Summerland" is "Party Of Five," sunny-side up.

Some of us like it; some of you don't. I'm not sure that summer network fare is going to get much better than this series, though. ("The Amazing Race" excepted, as always.)

I love all those shows!! The OC is really good BECAUSE it has so much drama, and Summerland is good because it's a different style of the OC...just more middle-class.

I loved this show. It was one of my favorite tv series. I liked season 1 very much.
